Tank setup tips
-
Length over height: A 120 cm (4 ft) footprint lets the school hit sprint speed.
-
Oxygen & flow: Position a canister or powerhead to create a river-like current; they’ll naturally swim against it and stay in prime viewing areas.
-
Cover: Tall Vallisneria, water sprite, or driftwood roots along the back calm the fish and break sight-lines. Keep the mid-front open for schooling.
-
Lighting: Moderate LEDs bring out the red stripe without pushing algae; dim corners encourage natural grouping.
Compatible neighbors
-
Fast mid- to top-level fish: Rainbowfish, larger Rasboras
-
Bottom crew: Yo-yo loaches, large Corydoras, Bristlenose Plecos
-
Avoid slow, long-finned species (Bettas, fancy Guppies) that can’t outrun curious nips.
Feeding routine
Offer two small meals daily: a staple micro-pellet in the morning and a protein-rich frozen food in the evening. Supplement with blanched spinach or zucchini slices twice a week—these barbs appreciate occasional plant matter and it helps keep their digestive tract moving.
